People ask all the time what they can do to be rid of goutweed, otherwise known as bishop’s weed. Based on a lot of field observation, I put together some thoughts in this document below. Please let me know what works for your site.
Let me push the importance of bio-security as we busy ourselves on the land. Remember that if you see plants (invasive species) above ground, it is highly likely that there are also seeds in the soil. So be careful with boots, tools, and such – clean them off well, let it become part of your routine. I’m starting site work on some big public spaces in South Burlington, VT, and I bought rubber boots for use exclusively at those two sites. The work is hard enough with the plants they already have – no reason for me to bring in any more!
Visiting Ireland again in September for a big invasive species conference. Will absolutely re-visit the Irish Seed Savers not far from Shannon airport. A must for a visit if heading over. Cheers.
